Pretty Wicked On Oxygen

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Oh no, not another reality show. Oh yes, it’s true.

Tuesday nights are usually pretty dry around here. I can’t remember if it’s just “The Real Housewives…somethingorother” and that’s it, or if there’s something else. I know Wednesday “Lost” is on and we watch Fantasy Factory and Nitro Circus on Sundays, but the rest is just a fog. Usually Laura controls the remote. It has too many buttons for me and my brain is already full.

Well, tonight was a real treat. I ended up downstairs before the lady of the house got there, so I turned the TV on. Of course, some reality TV channel was already set (Oxygen). I sat down only to find another house full of dramatic girls trying to live together while improving their attitudes. C’mon, this is serious stuff. It’s like I always say, “This stuff is reality…the way it really goes down.”

Okay, the name of the show is “Pretty Wicked” and as I said before, it’s on Oxygen. Oh yeah, there’s all sorts of drama. One girl threatened to leave the house, another two are mortal enemies, another is a crier…etc…If you want to see a sample of the show, just click the title above or watch the video below.

I would say the show still seems new, but will age gracefully. If they throw in a few fights here and there, it might stick around for another season. By the way, CariDee English from America’s Next Top Model (cycle 7) is the show’s host.

Still Waiting To Watch Nitro Circus On MTV

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

I have to say, Sunday nights on MTV offer some of the best television out there.

Starting at 9PM, we have Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, which is a really, really funny show. Then, we have the College Humor show, which is a different kind of funny, but funny nonetheless. After that, is Nitro Circus, which looks just awesome. The only problem there is that I haven’t been able to see that one yet…for some reason or another.

A while ago, I saw a preview for Nitro Circus on MTV where a guy was riding a dirtbike on top of water. It looked so cool. I looked all over the place and finally found a video of it on YouTube. I was going to post it here, but decided that I would post a different video of theirs instead. This one’s a lot better. You gotta watch this. It’s just a taste of what the show is about.

Baby It’s Dark Outside

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I just got off the phone with my brother. It’s like talking to myself. No, he doesn’t always copy me, he’s just a lot like me. Or, I’m a lot like him. He’s a few years older, but I’m taller, so I call him “little brother.”

Anyway, we were talking about how damn dark it is outside. I almost screamed. He gets an extra half hour of light at the end of the day, but that wasn’t what I was getting mad at. I was hating the dark – period. What is up with this? Why don’t the “people in charge” just give us daylight savings time all year round? I mean, seriously, who would care?

I was telling him that my ideal situation would be mowing the lawn at 9PM. Now, that’s what I’m talking about. I want it to get dark at around 10PM. I want to be drinking a beer, watching the sun go down when all the little kiddies in the town have been asleep for an hour already.

These days feel so short. I know they’re not, but what in the world am I supposed to do with all this darkness? My logical mind tells me to find something to do in the dark. Yeah, right. What does everyone else do? That’s what I’d like to know. What in the world does everyone in this world do during winter? Is it me, or is the vast majority of our population sitting on the couch from 6PM to 11PM watching TV to only fall asleep a few minutes later? Does it feel like ground hog day all winter for everyone?

Boy, I’m on a tear tonight. I think it’s because when I got off the phone, the clock read 9:56PM. I thought it was around 7PM. Almost 3 hours of my life just disappeared. I’m not going to get those hours back folks, and I blame this darkness for it.

Sunshine, I know I cursed you in the summer, but I’m sorry. I want you back. Please give me another chance.

Democratic Debate in Las Vegas

Friday, November 16th, 2007

I heard there was going to be another Democratic debate last night in Las Vegas. I was pretty excited, because I like debates.

We sat down to start eating dinner when Laura got up to see if she could find which channel the debate was on. For some reason, we couldn’t seem to locate it. I hopped up and walked into the other room to do some research online. I discovered that the debate was going to be aired on CNN. I went back into the living room to find CNN on the TV. Again, I couldn’t find the debate, nor CNN for that matter. Hmmmm…

We finished up dinner and I visited CNN.com to get some more information. I discovered that I could watch the debate live online, right there at CNN.com. I was thinking to myself…”Yeah right, like it’s going to come in smoothly, without breaking up to buffer ever few seconds.” I clicked the player, downloaded the plugin for Firefox and off I went.

I couldn’t believe it. There I was, sitting at my computer two hours later watching them finish up the debate. About half way through, I noticed that I could enlarge the player window to fit the entire twenty two inches on my monitor. It was like watching a television. Everything was smooth and there were no commercials. During the times the commercials were airing on the television, they flipped over to live coverage of the debate on the CNN.com channel. It was so cool.

I guess things are changing quickly. By the way, Hillary did much better and was quite impressive.

We Watched Red Dawn Last Night

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Last night was movie night at my house. I recommended that we see “Red Dawn.” I was excited to see a thriller like this. After sitting patiently through the movie, I decided to very, very short review on it.

red_dawn_dvd.jpg

First, here is the story:

The film’s plot involves a Soviet and Cuban/Latin American invasion of the United States in the year 1984, igniting a world war. The story is about young people resisting military occupation.

The film is set in a small Colorado town, where a group of teenagers flee to the hills first to escape the Soviets, and eventually begin an insurgency against Soviet occupational forces. The Colorado high school students call themselves the Wolverines after their school’s mascot and proceed to launch raids, set ambushes, use sniper attacks, plant bombs and even execute a prisoner of war and one of their own American members who tried to betray them to the Soviets during their campaign.

The film’s epilogue suggests that the United States won the war several years later; a plaque is displayed with “Partisan Rock” in the background, which pays tribute to the Wolverines killed in action, and reveals that the events in the film occurred during the early days of World War III.

I have to say that I expected more out of this movie. It was pretty one dimensional. While the makers of the film had a huge story to work with, they really kept it very basic. I can describe it like this: People invade; townspeople hide in the mountains and fight back. Damn, that was hot. Now, I know this movie was made a while ago back in the 80’s, but I have seen movies from that era with great storylines and special effects. Oh well…I guess I could recommend this movie only if you are really bored and have seen all the other movies out there.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Friday, October 27th, 2006

I am getting pretty excited about Halloween. Hands down, one of the best things about this season is “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” The other great thing is the chill in the air.

As I was driving in this morning, NPR had a story on this classic. It got me thinking about if I could find a good picture of this show to put up in a post. Like 99% of blog posts out there, this is pretty random. Anyway, here is the best picture I could find.

Here is a great description of this show:

As Linus and Charlie Brown’s little sister, Sally Brown, sit in the pumpkin patch, the gang of Charlie Brown, Lucy Van Pelt, Schroeder, Pig-Pen, Patty and Violet go trick-or-treating. Everyone gets candy (except for Charlie Brown, who for some reason always gets a rock in his bag). Meanwhile, Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy, dressed up as the famous World War I flying ace, goes on his Sopwith Camel (which is his doghouse) to shoot down the infamous Red Baron. Linus, missing out on trick-or-treating, also misses out on the Halloween party at Violet’s house. At the pumpkin patch, Linus thinks he finally sees his mysterious hero, but instead he sees a silhouette of Snoopy in his World War I Flying Ace outfit. Sally is outraged and threatens to “sue” Linus. She leaves him alone in the pumpkin patch, where he stays late into the night. Lucy later finds him shivering on the ground, covered in his blanket and helps him into the house. Linus vows to Charlie Brown at the rock wall that the Great Pumpkin will return next year.”

I think they said this show is on NBC tonight. I know what I am doing…
