Windows Vista vs. Windows 7

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I was just reading an article on how Windows Vista may have affected Microsoft’s in 2008. The didn’t blame per se, but it did blame , XP and the (or lack thereof) of due to the lagging . As everyone most likely already knows, most of the sales of systems are tied to the sales of , because the systems come installed on the . When don’t sell, neither do the systems.

The talked about how people were generally dissatisfied with and that may have been taking its toll on sales. In other words, people were willing to stick it out with XP and an older , until a is released. They said that many users are waiting for the release of Windows 7. This is what I found interesting…

Here is my : If people didn’t want in the first place and were willing to keep an older system, how is a going to fix the problem?

As far as I know, there really isn’t all too much of a pull for a new of . I totally understand the need to come up with new and better products, but a new of an system every few years isn’t really necessary. Especially when so many users out there are perfectly willing to use an older one. Why not build on that one?

Here is a disclaimer: I have absolutely no reason to believe I know what I am talking about when it comes to the inner workings of . I am merely stating simple observations.

So here is my question: Has anyone taken an in-depth look at 7? From what I can tell, it looks a lot like other versions of , with things arranged differently, along with some new icons. I am sure the developers over at Microsoft would like to slap me for saying that. I wouldn’t mind someone familiar with the system to comment.

Recent Windows Update

I run Windows Vista. It’s ok. I am not the kind of guy who goes nuts over operating systems out there. I am sure there are some great features with other ones, but I needed a because I have work to do.

I have been pretty happy with Windows Vista, although there are some strange things that never seem to work correctly, like ActiveSync. I am not sure why Microsoft can’t seem to get this right. I am running a Microsoft operating system and running Windows Mobile on my PDA. Why is it that I have to break the relationship every so often, because the phone refuses to sync with the ? I have no idea.

Recently, I purchased Outlook 2007 and installed it. At about the same time, my restarted itself to finish installing the most recent updates. Ever since then, whenever the goes into sleep mode, I can’t wake it up by shaking the mouse. I used to be able to do this. Now, I have to give the power button a quick push to wake it up. That’s fine, but what happened?

It just puzzles me that it is always a guessing game with what’s going to happen when I install some or update existing made by the same people.
