Google Pagerank Update Underway

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Just in case you haven’t noticed your Google Pagerank lately, it is currently being updated as I type.

I was typing the last post in this blog a few minutes ago and noticed that it now has a Pagerank of 2. That’s twice of what it was at 1. The reason it’s only a 2 is because I have relatively few links to the blog and the domain name is very young. Some of my other sites picked up a few points.

Good luck and let me know if your site gained any PR.

One Nice Blog…

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I must say that I think I came across the best written blog today…”One Project Closer.” I know this has nothing to do with anything, but I just have to say something when I see this kind of quality.

Take a look here and check out how these bloggers write. What I particularly like is the way they section off parts of each post and give pros, cons and conclusions. If I were only that organized. It makes things very easy to read. Also, I like the questions at the end, like, “What do you think? Would you use tree compound? What tips do you want to pass along?” This really gets the reader involved with commenting. It’s like in sales, you have to put the item in the customer’s hand and walk them to the register.

Anyway, bravo guys…nice job.

Wordpress 2.5 – HTTP Error When Uploading Images – Firefox

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Well, I hate to say it, but we may have a picture”less” blog here. I have been having trouble uploading photos into this version of Wordpress (2.5 and 2.5.1).

Before we moved, everything was fine. After we moved, I remember starting up the computer and Firefox wanted me to install the recently downloaded upgrade, so I did. Since then, I haven’t been able to upload any photos into Wordpress. When I try, either it continues to say, “crunching” or I get an error that says, “HTTP error.”

Just to see what would happen, I tried to upload photos by using Internet Explorer (IE) on my laptop. Everything worked fine. This leads me to believe it’s an issue between Firefox and Wordpress 2.5.

Any suggestions are welcome.

By the way, I just upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress and the problem persists.

You Make My Day!

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Ok, ok, I’m here. Yes, it did take me a little while to get to this, but I am quite happy to oblige. My dear friend Paul, over at the infamous Homeowner’s Blog was kind enough to include me in his “You Make My Day!” post. I knew I would squeeze in there somewhere.

I have an issue with this whole thing (leave it to me). The official rules are telling me to list 5 blogs that I really read. What if I only read 2 and then throw in another one every once in a while? Oh well, I guess that’s the way it’s got to be. Here goes…

1. The Henry Family Blog – The blog is owned and operated by my sister Stephanie and her manly husband Steve. It’s not too old…I think under a year, but it certainly is getting there. They talk about all sorts of stuff and sometimes I grace them with a comment.

2. Homeowner’s Blog – This is Paul’s blog. I read this one when I am done reading the blog I listed above. There is some good stuff in there, but he doesn’t nearly talk about me as much as he should be. Once a post would be nice.

3. Sun Volt Solar Blog – I read this one every so often. I know the guy who runs it, so I have an in to the latest in the energy front. Even though I don’t believe in renewable energy, I do get a kick out of what he writes. HAHAHAHA, just kidding. I believe in renewable energy.

So, there you have it. That’s all I got. I read some more blogs, but none as much as I read these. Here are the rules, so Stephanie and Steve better write about me:

The obligatory rules that go with these sorts of posts are…
The ‘you make my day award’ works like this:

1) Write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think and/or make your day.
2) Acknowledge the post of the award giver.
3) Tell the award winners that they have won by commenting on their blogs with the news!

Google PageRank Update – January 2008

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

I was sitting here last night, when I noticed that my new blog here finally had a Google PageRank. I was pretty happy about that, but there was one tiny problem. The PageRank is a 1.

Remember back when I told you that I switched this blog over to a new domain name? Well, back then, this blog (on the old domain) had a PageRank of 5. I did a simple 301 redirect for the entire blog in the .htaccess file, pointing it to this new domain. I figured that the nice PageRank I had earned over the years would follow me to this new domain. Guess not.

I did notice that the kwaree.com domain still has a PageRank of 5. That’s weird, because all there is over there are a few static pages that never change. So what’s all this about the size of a website, the frequency of updates, etc…? I know of a very specific factor that heavily affects PageRank, but am not ready to share it just yet. I am still doing some research.

I took a look around all my sites. They all pretty much stayed the same, except for one. That one dropped a point, which is disappointing. I looked at a few blogs I know of. One got hit pretty hard and lost 3 points. Man, is this PageRank update about hitting blogs?

WordPress Update – Version 2.3.2

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

In my WordPress dashboard, I just noticed that there is a security and bugfix release for WordPress. The new version is 2.3.2. I like to announce these releases in my posts because some of my friends and family uses WordPress and they might not notice the blurb in their dashboard.

Mad peace to all of you.

WordPress vs. Drupal

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

I have a domain name and hosting account sitting there just burning to be used. I purchased a script a few days ago that looked like it had lots of promise. After installing it, I learned that it was nothing but full of bugs. Since I didn’t have the time or patience to fix someone else’s mess, I asked for a refund, which I got. Really, if a script gives me issues again and again, I can just imagine the emails I will receive when real people start using it. Sometimes these computer dudes really don’t have a clue.

Anyway, I have been looking into Drupal lately. I have heard so many good things about it. Obviously, I use WordPress already (for this blog). As I research Drupal, I am noticing many similarities between the two applications. I am reading that WordPress is great, but Drupal can do what WordPress does and a whole lot more. I have even heard that you can use Drupal for a social networking script (by the way, I did find THE social networking script, but it costs $20,000 per year for licensing).

So my question is, what exactly are the differences between WordPress and Drupal? Which one is older? I know they both have very dedicated and large communities of developers and followers. Will they both end up being the same thing as they grow through the years? Can I set up Drupal to be automated…like a link directory or an article submission website?

So many questions…

A New Blog Directory

Friday, December 21st, 2007

My FeedDirectory.US (Feed Directory) website has been receiving an enormous amount of spam submissions for some time now. I felt that the scope was too wide for a site like that, so I reinvented it as a blog directory. The new website is called “Blog Directory – BlogLeeg.com” and will have some very strict rules. There won’t be many of them, but they will be strict…

Rules

1. For a submission to be approved, it must be a blog.
2. For a blog to be approved, it must be good.

I think those are fair rules. So, if you have a good blog, please feel free to submit your feed to the Blog Directory.

New Video Units For the Blog

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

If you’ll take a quick look to the right, you’ll notice a cool new feature for this blog…video units.

I have to say that this is pretty entertaining. I like that fact that when a visitor takes a look at one of my pages, they are offered the content that I wrote as well as some related videos (I have learned that they are relevant). So, if you are bored, take a look. I think the setup is neat.
