Working With A Dell Precision T7400 Workstation

Well, I recieved the new T7400 yesterday, a day early. I met the FedEx guy in the garage. He warned me that the box was heavy.

I unpacked the box and took the out. It was pretty heavy. I brought it upstairs and made room for it on my desk. I set everything up and turned the sucker on. I must say, it is pretty much like my other , except 10x more expensive.

I do notice some speed increases with certain things, but I am not really doing anything that requires all this processor yet. Regarding moving around all those files, I would say this new system has helped out greatly.

Here are some photos…

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, it’s pretty large too. My other is tiny compared to it.

I too fell in love with the Dell T7400 & ordered one to replace my 5 yr old Dimension.
After finding significant savings on Dell’s Small&Med Business Outlet site, I ordered one refurbished & appointed with many bells n whistles: Quad Core Intel Xeon processor, 1 TB SATA hard drive & 8000 mg memory, & a 512MB PCIe x16 nVidia Quadro FX3700 dual mon. DVI capable video card.
Only its huuge: those refurbished/scratch n dent units are super savings but come with minimal customization possibilities. This is full size, not the mini-tower. The size is disproportionate. Hello Lilliputians, Gulliver is in the House! Sooo! I’ve re-evaluated my computing goals. I’ll be starting my PhD soon, along with dabbling in online business but not like owning 3 dozen websites. So after negotiating with Dell to come get it (free pickup & return…how nice is that??) I’m back to the drawing board.
Its got to kick butt like Chuck Norris, and do it as fast as Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan!
I’ve heard the Optiplex straddles the line between high-end home usage & low-end small business, which is what I’d like.
Would you be so kind to offer your opinion?
    thanks, Jeana
