Ford Mustang Mach 1 – Priming the Sheet Metal

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Jeff sent me a few photos of the most recent transition of his 1970 . I have been a very bad brother and haven’t posted them. I blame my selfish greed for this. I will try to do better in the future.

Ok, so here they are…

July 21-22
Here are photos of the right floor firewall extension (where the passenger’s feet go).

The Difference in Tire Ratings

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Tomorrow, I have an appointment with a local tire service center to replace the on my car. When I purchased the car (1998 Honda Accord – V6), I think it had around 76,000 miles on it. The weren’t the greatest, so I had them changed. The ones I got were 50,000 mile .

Well, as it turns out, I didn’t end up being the greatest tire rotator, so I can feel flat spots in the now. The car currently has about 147,000 miles on it, so I don’t feel too bad.

Earlier this week, I pulled into the tire place and a nice guy walked out to me with a clip board. I thought this was kind of nice. He was quite friendy. I told him what I was looking for and he wrote down the tire size, rating and all that stuff. He noticed that the car currently had “H” rated , yet the car called for “V” rated . That’s the speed rating. We went inside and picked out the new that I wanted. They have to order them, so my appointment is Friday.

I was asking the person inside about what the rating meant. She didn’t have the greatest response, so I looked here. This has some helpful information, but I am still looking for more. “Speed Rating” doesn’t help much.

I found an article called,”The Truth About Performance Tires” that helped somewhat. The website says, “This “V” meant the tire had been safely tested in the laboratory to stay together at speeds up to 149 mph. Thus, the modern day high performance tire was introduced in America.” If you read the article, you can get a feel of what the other ratings mean, such as “H,” “S” and “Z” ratings.

The “V” rated is equipped to handle speeds up to 149 MPH. I am very happy to hear that because I have always thought something was holding me back in that car.

Is Your Website Being Censored?

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

On the way to lunch today, Paul informed me that his website is being blocked in China by the Chinese government. I thought this was a little strange, since his website is fairly innocent. I mean, it does discuss property ownership…perhaps that is the reason the site is blocked.

I thought it would be fun to see if some of my were being censored by China as well. I checked the site, “greatfirewallofchina.org” to see what would happen.

The first URL I typed in was Yahoo.com. They were blocked. Then I typed in a few of my sites…all blocked. I thought this was a little strange. There is a note on the site that says that a website may show as blocked due to technical difficulty. That may be the case.

I have no idea how these sites are blocked or why. I am thinking that maybe everything is blocked, but a select few are allowed through.

Please Try Not to Kill Your Children

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Just because you are doing it slowly doesn’t mean you aren’t doing it.

On the way to work this morning, I was talking to my sister Laurie on my cell phone (with my ear piece, of course). I was getting on the highway when I looked in my rear view mirror. I saw an oversized woman sitting in her car with a little girl in the front seat and some kids in the back. Her windows were closed. Nothing really struck me, besides the fact that she had a little girl about two feet tall sitting in the front seat. I kept looking, when she brought a lit cigarette to her mouth for a nice puff. Hmmm, I thought, your kids have absolutely no idea that; 1. you are killing them with the second hand smoke, 2. you are forcing a cigarette addiction on them, and 3. you are forcing them to think that smoking is ok.

I turned on to the highway and started driving, a little troubled. I wanted to pull her over to smack her. After a few miles, she just happened to pass me in the left lane. I looked over and noticed that her windows were still up and they had that nice dirty smoke staining on them. Apparently, she has done this quite a bit.

I remember back one time when Craig and I were sitting at the deli eating lunch. We were out at a picnic table near the parking lot. I woman in a caravan had a full load of kids. We sat there watching as she rolled up the windows, turned on the A/C and light a cigarette. Craig got very angry and walked over to the car. He knocked on the window and she rolled it down. He said, “Can you please not smoke in your car with the windows up while there are children in there?” The woman got very angry, rolled up the windows and drove away. Heaven forbid someone actually speak up for the kids she is killing.

I read an article the other day on the Drudge Report. It was titled, “100-year-old celebrates her birthday by smoking 170,000th cigarette.” I thought to myself, “Wow, I am very proud of her. I wonder how many other people in her life she has brought down because of her smoking?” There is nothing like not being totally selfish.

Ok, so here it is. If you are reading this and you smoke in your car while there are kids nearby, you are killing them. If no one has ever told you that, I just did.

Popular Websites For eBusiness

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I thought this was interesting. I just found this article on Digg.

The article lists the top 25 eBusiness websites based on a few factors. I like this list, because I have visited a few of these . I do get a little jealous because I hate to see these huge numbers from other than my own. I mean, hey, more power to ya’, but still, it’s not me. Oh well.

Here is the list of the most popular eBusiness . I have probably visited the top six at some time or another.

If you are into SEO, eBusiness and things having to do with being a webmaster, you might want to bookmark this.

Man Gets Jail For Not Getting Permits

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Yeah, this is what jails were made for. Lock ‘em up!!! Like there isn’t enough of the tax payers money going toward locking everyone in this country up.

Apparently, this guy didn’t get the required permits to do some work around his house. Now, I am all about permits and asking permission for things. I don’t want neighbors taking it upon themselves to make something their version of “beautiful.” I just think that giving someone a jail sentence for this is ridiculous. What about community service or something like that?

Here, take a look at the article here.

Is Someone Tasting On Your Domain Name Idea?

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Say you have the next best domain name. Say you go to a domain name registration website and type your domain name idea into the little search box. Hey, it’s available. You wait a few days to muster up all the hard cold cash it’s going to take to get this bad boy. You get the cash and go back to make your dream come true. This time, when you search for your domain, it’s gone. That is…it’s taken. Someone already bought it.

Why? Well, I guess there are many reasons. I read this article on the web earlier today. I though they hit the whole thing right on the head. They say it’s called “Domain Tasting.”

Wikipedia says that these domain tasters are using the five day test drive of a top level domain to see if it has any marketability. I can’t imagine a domain having any traffic if it’s brand new. Most of those good ones are gone. I bet they are after the ones that have already been purchased in the past, but let expire.

This actually happened to someone I know. If it’s happened to you, go ahead and re-search the domain to see if it’s come back available. If it is, this time, grab it.

Registering Your Domain Name

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Get ‘em quick. That’s my advice. Where? You can register a domain name right here.

You know, that’s pretty funny. I wasn’t going to make this a pitch for my domain name registration service. It just happened. I was just sitting here with Laura reminiscing about when I bought the domain name, “kwaree.com.” I know, it was a little strange when I bought it. I think Laura thought it was funny because it was my last name. Well, would it be funny if Bill Gates registered “Gates.com?” I think not.

Actually, I think it’s becoming quite fashionable for someone to register their last name, that is, if it’s not a very popular one. I mean, I think Mr. Smith or Ms. Jones may have some trouble.

Back when I registered kwaree.com, I never in a million years thought anyone would ever register any other G domain name with a different extention. I thought I was in the clear. Well, guess what? Good thing I got it when I did, because both G.net and G.org are taken. By who? Probably some long lost cousins in France. I think one of them emailed me once.

So, what’s the lesson here? If you think you should register a domain name, even if it’s wacky and wild, go ahead and do it right now. If not, someone else may beat you to the punch.
