More Bearded Iris
Posted on May 25, 2007 – 8:52 pm by admin
My neighbor, Tim, was gracious enough to let me take a photo of his and his wife’s beautiful Bearded Iris garden in the front of their house.
You may have noticed that I wrote a post about Bearded Iris just this morning. As I mentioned in that post, you need to enjoy these while you can, because they only last a few days. My sister, Laurie isn’t too fond of these flowers because of that. Well, I like them and I will take what I can get.
The flowers are surrounded by river stone. I helped place that stone in the garden last year using a wheelbarrow with a half flat tire. I would say that deserves 10 beers.
Well, what do you think?

I know you wrote that just to get me to comment. I really do read your blog all the time but would much rather comment in real life to you. I do have a love / hate relationship with the bearded iris. Don’t get me wrong, I have a few myself, but for all the time it takes to grow the things, you’d think they would last longer than a day or two. I love them and want them to stay longer. And mine don’t bloom on Memorial Day, they bloomed about two months ago. Enjoy them while you can and tell your neighbor that his garden is beautiful. And so is yours.

Well actually, the Bearded Iris are still around, but are starting to fall over. I think the stems are getting kind of heavy. There are multiple buds on each one. Thank you for the mad props on the gardens. I like the combination of the iris and the allium.

I am also a Iris lover. I am from Tennessee and that is their state flower. Someone in my family once had Iris that bloomed again in the fall. Now my daughter that lives here in North Carolina has Iris blooming and it is now November! I have read online that there are some called Immortality Iris that bloom in the fall but the strange thing is that I set these Iris out in my daughter’s yard and they came from my old bed in Tennessee where I had moved them from my mother’s yard. They bloomed in the spring this year and had huge dark purple blooms. The green leaves never really got very dried on the ends and now they are blooming again. We did keep them deadheaded so maybe that had something to do with the reblooming. I set some of the same Iris out at my house just 2 miles from her but mine did not rebloom. Strange…..
